About JZ Academy, Hair Design School
Our Hair Design Program, a 1200-hour course, exclusively covers hair and does not include instruction on skin or nails.
Is JZ Academy an accredited school?Not yet, but we officially will be at the end of 2025!
Can I tour JZ Academy?Absolutely! Tours are available Monday - Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. No appointment necessary!
How many students are in each class?We aim for a class of about 20 students to ensure personalized attention.
What is the application process?- Call or text (801) 830-5883 or email academy@jzstyles.com to receive an enrollment application.
- Once your application is submitted, our director, Kaylee, will get in contact with you about setting up an interview.
- About 2-3 weeks after the interview, we will notify you if you have been placed in a class.
FINANCIALS
Tuition is $17,500.
Do you offer a payment plan?Yes! You can either pay tuition in full or participate in our in-house payment plan. We offer a 9 month payment plan with an 8% interest rate. Payments end up being around $1,800 to $1,900 a month!
Do you accept scholarships or financial aid?We accept scholarships if it is gifted money or money that you have been awarded. We are unable to accept any Title 4 funding at this time.
When is tuition due?- Secure your spot with a $100 deposit.
- 45 days before your start date, a non-refundable payment of $1,500 is required to be paid in full.
- Choose to pay the full tuition at the start of class or use our in-house payment plan.
- Tuition is required to be paid in full before graduation.
- Be aware that tuition will increase to $18,000 in July of 2026.
Practical Practical state board exam: $98
Written state board exam: $96
Applying for your license: $60
Renewing your license (every 2 years): $52

LICENSING
We recommend contacting your state’s department of professional licensing to get the most up-to-date information.
Will I be able to be licensed in another state?We always encourage everyone who is interested in coming from our of state to reach out to that particular state’s Department of Professional Licensing and ask how you would go about transferring after getting your education with us in a Hair Design Program. Every state is different so that will be the best way to get the most accurate answer!
CURRICULUM
Our program is 1,200 hours.
How long does it take to finish the program?As little as 8.5 months!
What is the program schedule?Mondays-Thursdays from 8AM to 5PM.
When are the start dates?We have start dates every January, April, July and October.
Will Jessi be teaching regularly?While Jessi's schedule doesn't allow for her to be a consistent instructor at JZ Academy, she does visit classes occasionally.
Will JZ Academy prepare me to pass the Utah State Board?Yes! As part of the JZ Academy curriculum, we prepare all students to pass the Utah State Board so you can start making money as a stylist as soon as possible.
Will I be JZ Extension Certified upon graduating?Yes! Becoming JZ Extension Certified is part of our curriculum. This means you will learn how to install JZ hair extensions using the methods taught by educators at JZ Styles. Stylists that are not JZ Academy graduates who wish to become JZ Extension Certified have to take this course separately for $1,500!
What is the difference between a Hair Design Program and a Cosmetology Program?Our Hair Design Program
